Collaborative projects I have been involved with:

Audio Visual Club of Honolulu (2006-2010)

AVCH was an artist’s collective with the aim of creating print-based performance art works infused with humor and designed to elicit audience participation and interaction. We completed 7 grant-funded public art projects during this time, including a retrospective of works held at Gallery Iolani at Windward Community College. Each project was a complex amalgam of collaborative decision making, creative fundraising, and ad hoc fabrication of project components. Project technical parameters encompassed the use of audio and video presentation systems, carpentry, modified bicycles and RC cars, metalwork and wax casting, as well as traditional printmaking. AVCH was a collaboration with Vincent Hazen, Matt Kubo, Alan Konishi, and Michael Sweitzer. Click here to see a gallery of AVCH work.

.5ppi (2014-present)

.5ppi (pronounced “point five pee pee eye”) is an ongoing project specializing in collaborative site-specific printmaking installations. The name refers to an absurd resolution: one half pixel per square inch. .5ppi sets up temporary interactive platforms revolving around the performative activities of printmaking, brought into social spaces. This exteriorized studio practice involves the production of large-scale (i.e. architectural-scale) relief prints, utilizing a mobile printing press, and, critically, the participation of the communities. Imagery is generated in response to site and in consultation and conversation with stakeholders. Images are processed and then translated into analog woodcuts using a modular grid system. The output generates an absurd supergraphic environment that questions routine perceptions and assumptions about technology. The work is concerned with creating an immersive, spectacular experience in which the roles and notions of artistry, craft, mediation, and authorship are elided and blend into the crowd. .5ppi was conceived and developed by Duncan Dempster, and has involved collaborations with Joseph Nam, David Randall, Noah Matteucci, Shawn Taras, Maile Meyer, Vincent Ricafort, Justin Davies, Paul Galang, Kamakani Konia, Ayako Linden, and many other individuals and groups.
